Origin: Lapland, encompassing Norway, Sweden, Finland and parts of Russia (Murmansk Oblast) (Provenance: From an old collection in the UK)

Materials: Reindeer antler, leather, brass, ink and or charcoal pigment
Description: This unique knife scabbard has some of the finest Sami scrimshaw work we've seen. It features an everyday life seen with two period figures wearing traditional clothing. One is being pulled in a sled by a reindeer which the other is leading a reindeer that is pulling a sled. The top of the scabbard has a hollow channel to aid fit and extraction of the knife blade. It is well used and has acquired a mellow use patina turning to a warm brown. Some old loss to the tip of one antler appendage. Presented on a custom display stand.
