ARCHAIC 18TH-19TH C. Cameroon Bamum PRESTIGE STOOL w/ 3 FIGURES!

Period/Date: At least 19th century (possibly 18th century)
Description: This stool is extremely old and has an impressive encrusted surface acquired from generations use. It features three figures with raised arms supporting the top. The figures have expressive faces with relief-carved eyes and what appears to be exposed teeth. There are two female figures and one male. They are divided by curious "U" shape risers with textured horizontal incising. The top rim has a broad band of geometric zig-zag carving around the perimeter. The wood is very old! In good condition with minor chipping and slight loss associated with long use. Dark reddish brown color turning to black with heavy layered patina. Presented on a custom wood display base.
