19th C. Fijian Terracotta Strap Handle Water Vessel Pot
Origin: Western Polynesia, Fiji, Provenance: Purchased by a Los Angeles collector from Mauna Kea Galleries Hawaii 20 years ago.
Period: 19th- Early 20th century
Materials: terracotta, natural sap glaze
Description: This water pot is has decoration on its top side and features four small applied straps with rings around them. These were low-fired and had an applied plant-based sap resin glaze like Breadfruit. Over the years it has been lovingly restored and has evidence of mends.
