19th C. Hawaiian Bark Cloth, Kapa Cloth Beater
Origin: North Eastern Polynesia, Hawaii Provenance: Purchased by a Los Angeles collector from Mauna Kea Galleries (Mark Blackburn) HI 20 years ago.

Description: This lovely old kapa beater features a different carved pattern on each side. It shows long traditional use, having acquired a honey color patina turning to dark brown. Only the second one I've had in 18 years. See my other 3 tapa beaters from this same collection.
