Rare 19th C. Maori Nephrite Parrot Leg Ring Tether
Origin: New Zealand, Maori People Provenance: Purchased from Mauna Kea Galleries Hawaii, by a Los Angeles collector 20 years ago.

Materials: Green Stone (Nephrite)
Description: This lovely "poria-kaka" pendant was used for captive Parrots. The Parrot's leg was in one loop and the other loop was for for a leash tether like this. This example has beautiful color and is high quality with few inclusions. There is no evidence of modern tooling or grinding in its manufacture. In fine condition with no chips or loss. In the description I said it was "rare". It is the only one we've offered for sale in 30 years!
