Description: Of all the Massim pieces I've sold, none have had this kind of presence and power as felt by these "mo mwai" Guardian Figures! Their faces are deeply carved with exposed teeth. They were made for a chief's house and were lashed face down from the ridge poles so that the figures could all who entered the residence. During construction, the figures were activated by incantations and magic spells, giving them the power to protect the dwelling from sorcery and theft. In good condition, having a dry varied patina and each is presented on a custom wood and metal display stand. Originally purchased for $3000.
