Nigerian KORO SOCIETY SEED-COVERED Helmet Mask


Origin: Nigeria, Koro or Angus people      (Provenance: Ex. New York collection, Purchased from Merton Simpson in 1980)


Period/Date: Likely early 20th century


Materials: fiber, string, cotton, abrus seeds


Description: This is a fine old example. It has a strong presence and retains virtually all of its strung abrus seeds! It has been danced a lot and is well-used. In fine condition except for missing cotton fringe dangles. The seeds are oxidized turning to black but still retains rich bold red color.It comes with a custom wood and metal display stand.
