Origin: Northern Australia, Bathhurst Island or Melville Island      (Provenance: Ex. Collection of Lynda Cunningham, Philmont, New York )


Period/Date: Circa 1970's

 

Materials: wood, Natural pigments (charcoal, white, red and yellow ochers)


Description: This diminutive ancestor figure has bold traditional paint with deeply carved eyes and mouth with expressive triangular face. The distinctive hallmark of this unknownartist is angular head. In good condition, presented on a wood base.


Dimensions:  Height 9” (23 cm), width 2.75” (7 cm)
