IMPRESSIVE FEMALE BRAIDED WIG!

 

Origin:  Central Africa, Angola, Mubukush People (Provenance:  Previously in the collection of Christopher Wild.  Mr. Wild is a British collector living in Notre-Dame-du-Hamel, France) 

Description:  A very scarce and impressive wig dating to the early 20th century (presented on a custom wood and metal display stand).  This was an important object when it was used and remains so today.    

This quality example is made of strands of woven bush fiber resembling human hair, each of which is attached to a piece of leather hide on the interior.  Two rows of clustered fiber on the front, make for lavish and full bangs.  The central crest is adorned with beaded fringe of white, black, red and blue which terminates into a long elegant pigtail!  There is no synthetic materials used whatsoever.  It is also complete with its beaded chin strap.  In good condition with traces of reddish brown earth pigment showing wear and use as seen in the photos.  It has acquired a dark brown patina turning to a reddish-brown.
