#11  19TH C. FIJIAN "ULA" THROWING CLUB

 

Origin: W. Polynesia, Fiji   (Provenance: Previously in old collections in Paris and London)

Period/Date:  Likely early 19th Century 

Materials:  root of a shrub: i ula drisi

Description:  This classic "Ula" throwing club with lobed head is presented on a custom metal stand.   It has dark rich color turning from red to a dark brown.  In very good condition with no significant loss or cracks on the head.  There are some minor dings, dents and chips as would be expected on a piece of this vintage but it is in overall fine condition.   There are a series old faint collection numbers lightly etched into the wood near the base of the head 231.
