Origin: W. Polynesia, Fiji (Provenance: Acquired from an old collection in Ghent Belgium) Period/Date: Early 19th Century Materials: root of a shrub: i ula drisi Description: Here's an incredibly rare form of "ula". It features a very full head with exaggerated large lobes on the upper and lower rows. It has dark rich color turning from red to a dark brown. In very good condition with no significant loss or cracks on the head. There are some minor dings, dents and chips as would be expected on a piece of this vintage but it is in overall fine condition. There are a series old faint incised collection numbers lightly etched into the shaft 1939/55. This is a meticulously and beautifully executed specimen!
