Origin: W. Polynesia, Fiji   (Provenance: Acquired from a San Francisco Bay Area Collection)

Period/Date:  Early 19th Century 

Materials:  root of a shrub: i ula drisi

Description:  The head of this "Ula"  throwing club has eight broadly spaced lobes and has 5 inches of incised "tavatava" on the handgrip.  There are some hairline age cracks and some nicks and dents around the head.  Nice dark rich patina especially on the shaft. 

Dimensions:   Length 16.75"  (42.5 cm), Width 4"  (10 cm)
