Collectie Willemijn en Henk van Halm (nr.NG-061285) Period/Date: early 20th century Materials: Ebony hardwood, lime Description: This style of club with serrated teeth appears to have been manufactured sometime after the introduction of similar Samoan clubs in the 19th century. This example is well balance, feels great in the hand and is smooth to the touch. Its pommel has a series of pierced holes which once had tassels or shell wealth attached from the Kula trade. It has acquired a handsome patina turning from a warm brown to black. In fine condition with no apparent damage.
