LARGE NORTHWEST COAST MODEL TOTEM W/ OLD HUDSON BAY COMPANY LABEL
Origin: British Columbia, Southern Northwest Coast (Provenance: Ex. Hudson Bay Fur Company Curio Shop of Spokane Washington established circa 1880. Ex. Collection Bill and Liz Caskey Topanga California. The Caskey's are avid collectors but are most known for producing very high quality Tribal and Asian Art Fairs in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York) Period/Date: Circa 1910-1920 Materials: Red Cedar, polychrome paint Description: Here's a larger old carved totem featuring six animals including Bears, Beavers, Frogs and Ravens. It retains its plinth base and is decorated with bold red, black, yellow, green, blue, teal-green paint. It is in good condition retaining 90 percent of its original paint. There is some loss to the left ear of the Bear on top. Much of the Hudson Bay Tag on the back is still legible. In addition there is a very early newspaper clipping describing the purpose and significant of the totem poles. Totems of this age and scale are highly collectible and getting VERY difficult to find.
