RARE EARLY TEKE BRONZE FIGURE

Origin:  Dem. Rep. of Congo, Teke People    (Provenance:  Acquired from an old collection in Paris)

Period/Date: 19th-early 20th century

Materials:  Bronze

Description:  This expressive cast bronze Teke figure is very similar to the one illustrated in the Hubert Goldet collection catalog (Maison de la Chime, June 2001 lot 535).  Scroll down to see the comparable piece.  It appears to be of the same period and made by the same hand!  This bold and powerful example has been left on its original homemade base (wood block w/ old bent nails).
