SHORT STABBING SPEAR W/ CHEETAH HIDE COVERED SHAFT
Origin: South Africa, Possibly Lower Congo (Provenance: Ex. Peter Westerdijk, Netherlands (noted author, collector and African weapons expert). After "The Congo Museum" in the Netherlands Deaccessioned a large group of Congo weapons, Westerdijk purchased them privately and sold many of them to an English Gentlemen in Suffolk UK. In February we purchased a 350+ piece collection of African and Oceanic Weapons from this UK collector. This special "spear" is among a small group of quality pieces we've held back specifically for our website clients) Period/Date: 19th-Early 20th century Materials: wood, forged iron, hide/ Cheetah fur, binding Description: Shows marvelous old-world craftsmanship. The spade-shaped end is decorated with embossed decoration and featured a singular copper rivet through the flattened flange. Very high quality.
