EXQUISITE SHONA WIREWORK SPEAR W/ LEAF BLADE

Origin: South Africa, Shona People     (Provenance:  In February we purchased a 350+ piece collection of African and Oceanic Weapons from an English Gentlemen in Suffolk UK.  This special "spear" is among a small group of quality pieces we've held back specifically for our website clients)

Period/Date: 19th- Early 20th century

Materials:  wood, forged iron, copper, brass

Description:  This is one of the finest and most meticulously crafted spears I've ever owned!  The symmetry of the leaf shaped blade is flawless.  The wirework decoration around the shaft is tight and precise.  Its conical end shaft is decorated with diagonal incising.  There is some old loss to one side.
