COMPLEX SOLOMON BARBED FIGHTING SPEAR W/ FIGURES
Origin: Melanesia, Solomon Islands, Bouganville? (Provenance: In February we purchased a 350+ piece collection of African and Oceanic Weapons from an English Gentlemen in Suffolk UK. This spear is among a small group of quality pieces we've held back specifically for our website clients) Period/Date: Late 19th-Early 20th Century Materials: Palm wood Description: This complex spear has dual ancestor faces surmounted by a length of barbs. Its upper shaft has three relief-carved snakes. The central dog-like figure at its base with elongated face is a guardian spirit who reigned over men and afforded protection in battle. Some minor loss to the noses on the figures as might be expected on a spear used in battle. (Note: Due to the length of the spear and shipping complications from Europe, its shaft has been strategically "step cut" but can be easily rejoined if desired. To save on shipping costs the buyer will have the option of having the spear rejoined or in pieces. Spears can be difficult to display so buyer may wish to order a custom stand) Dimensions: Length 90" (229 cm), Width 1.25" (3.2 cm) Reduced Price: $700 Currency Conversion A custom stand may be ordered for an additional fee
