Origin:  Melanesia, Solomon Islands    (Provenance:  In my spear collection since the 1990's and I don't recall where I got it)

Period/Date:  Early 20th century

Materials: Palm wood, rattan, bamboo

Description:  This extremely long fishing spear allowed for long reach and throwing leverage when spearing a fish from a boat or while standing on rocks.  It is one of those pieces to seen in person to be fully appreciate its Scale and Craftsmanship.   Six spikes surround a shorter recessed one in the center, spanning an impressive 45 inches into the bamboo shaft.   It has beautiful symmetry and intact rattan binding.
