GORGEOUS SOLOMON ISLAND FEMALE BUST W/ INLAY, NEW GEORGIA

Origin: Melanesia, Central Solomon islands, New Georgia  (Provenance: Acquired from an old Pennsylvania collection)

Period/Date:  Circa 1920's possibly older

Materials: This excellent quality female bust has one of the most beautiful and detailed faces (presented on a custom bronze display base).  The cut pearl shell inlay is meticulously done especially on the face.  I would assign an earlier date to it expect that the inset hair plugs are done with old trade cotton and not plant fiber.  Her lips appear red in the photos but that is not paint just bare wood.  Condition is excellent.
