Origin:  Polynesian, Samoa  (Provenance: From an old European Collection)

Description:  A fantastic sculptural piece presented on a custom metal stand, featuring three sides of "spinney" relief carved barbs!  Carved from a very hard wood, the spear has a graceful curve to it suggesting that it used as a "short spear" in close combat and was not cut off from a longer fighting spear.  It is so impressively carved that it may have also served has a type of ceremonial prestige object.  It retains the remnants of an old label and has acquired a dark rich patina from age and use.  Some barbs have old chips and loss.
