SUPERB 19TH C. SAILOR MADE BLUDGEON OR "BLACKJACK" HAND WEAPON

Origin:   New England Americana   (Provenance: Previously in an old Australian Collection of Whaling and Nautical Antiques)

Description:  Seen here is a beautifully handmade weapon presented on a custom metal display stand.  This is typical of weapons made and used on Whaling and Merchant ships up to mid 19th century.  Often the "first mate" would dole out punishment to "greenhands" who were unruly or not obeying orders.  It has is finely braided knot work handle with a tightly woven lead ball head.  It shows significant age and use.  Integrity is very sound after all these years.  It was an effective and sometimes deadly weapon which could easily inflict a concussion or fatal blow.  This item will not be shipped to minors.
