LAVISH AFRICAN BEADED DANCE RATTLE

Origin:  likely West Africa, Nigeria, Ibo people?  

Period/Date: mid 20th century

Materials:  Rolled tin, iron, fiber, nylon or composite trade beads, iron bells

Description:  This vibrant rattle is laden with red and white beaded fringe and accented with bells.  It not only has a lovely crisp sound but is also a beautiful "form object".  Note how the blacksmith applied the twisted terminal handle in a Ram's Horn motif with hand forged iron rivets.  In good condition showing obvious age and use.
