PAIR OF SMALL MICRONESIAN PALAU ISLAND SQUATTING FIGURES

Origin:  Micronesia, Palau or neighboring Island (Provenance: Acquired from Mr. Krever in Arizona whose father was on Naval duty in WWII.  He acquired the figures and a ceremonial house model in 1946.  These pieces were reportedly given to him as a gift by a family he helped out after the invasion of the Island)

Period/Date: circa 1930's-40's

Materials:  hardwood, shell, resin

Description:  It is uncommon so see a diminutive male and female squatting couple of this scale.  The male on the right is slightly smaller than the female.  They have inset shell eyes and are carved from a dense hardwood.  They have not been waxed or varnished as is often my experience with these figures.   In good condition with some slight loss to the nose of the male figure.  Spirit house sold separately.
