PAIWAN RED LACQUERED FIGHTING SWORD W/ FIGURES
Origin: Taiwan, Paiwan People (Provenance: Ken & Rosella Dalke Collection- Santa Cruz CA, Ex. Tad Dale- Santa Fe New Mexico) Period/Date: first quarter of the 20th c. Materials: hardwood, steel, copper wire, red lacquer paint Description: These swords are very collectible and hard to find now. The scabbard features two ancestor figures, five human heads and two snake heads (one on each of the scabbard) while the sword handle also has two figures. It retains much of its traditional Paiwan red lacquer paint which appears to have had several applications over its lifetime. In good condition with some minor rust spots on the blade.
