19TH C.  NGBAKA THROWING KNIFE, CONGO

Origin:  Central Africa, Dem. Rep. of Congo, Ngbaka people    (Provenance:  Acquired from noted Tribal Dealer:  Jim Economos, Santa Fe New Mexico.  Previously in an old UK collection)

Period/Date: Late 19th- Early 20th century

Materials:  forged iron, fiber

Description:  This old throwing blade is presented on a custom metal display stand.  It has classic embossed designs on the face of the blade and retains its original woven fiber handgrip.  Note the unusually large "ball finial" on the lower counter weight appendage.  The blade is 90 percent intact and preserved, yet there are areas of pitting and minor chips as might be expected on a weapon of this vintage.  These are getting hard to find and this one is of course guaranteed authentic!
