EARLY & SUPERB NAGA TOBACCO PIPE

Origin:  Northeast India, Naga people

Description:   An extraordinary and refined pipe most likely dating the 19th century.  Presented on a custom metal display stand, the pipe has the most beautiful serene face we've seen yet and is quite possible the best of its type.   It is decorated with 7 pairs of continuous stylized miniature faces along the stem.    An old crimped ring collar holds the wood mouth piece in place.  All components appear to be original.  It shows significant age and use with an encrusted patina turning from black to red.  An ancient example in excellent condition.  A related yet, less refined, example can be seen on page 84 of "The Nagas" by Grata Somare & Leonardo Vigorelli.
