SURREALISTIC MICHOACAN HORNED FIGURE

 

Origin:  Central Mexico, Mexican Highlands, Michoacan Culture Provenance:  Ex. collection of Dr. George Alan Solem, American malacologist (curator of invertebrates at the Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago)  It is believed that Dr. Solem likely acquired the figure in the 1970's from either Harry Franklin Gallery in Beverly Hills or J.J. Klejman in New York.

Period: Late Pre-classic period, 300 B.C.-A.D. 250

Materials: chalk-like paint over earthenware

Description:    Very old layered surface.  Glued mend to neck and both horns
