MAGNIFICENT MAMBILA WICKER SHIELD
Origin:
Period/Date: Circa 1910-1915 Materials: It is rare to see a Mambila shield "kor" offered for sale, let alone one in such fine condition. The quality construction of these huge shields is spectacular. There are two vertical parallel wooden supports which are unseen and covered with fiber. Its darker woven design is crisp and bold having little or no fading. It has its original woven loop handle and arm strap. The center is reinforced with a bark panel now partially separated from age. There are a few broken stitches, very minor losses and light soiling but overall its condition is fantastic given this piece is 100 years old and was used in warfare. A near identical example can be seen on pages 40-41 of "Shields", from the collections of the Barbier-Mueller Museum. Description: wood, palm fiber, reed, bark Dimensions: Height: 46.5" (118.5 cm), Width 36" (91.5 cm) Price: $9500 Currency Conversion FREE SHIPPING With (Buy Now) Feature!
