EXTRAORDINARY KAMBA FIGURAL BEER SPOON

Origin:  E. Africa Southern Kenya, Kamba People  (Provenance: From an old Collection in Gloucestershire England )

Description:  A "mastercarved" figural beer spoon presented on a custom metal display stand.  It is carved from a reddish hardwood and likely dates to the 1920-30's.  This is one of the best Kamba sculptures on the market.  The kneeling figure is holding a vessel and is adorned with a  necklace of white and red glass trade beads.  The female figure features a coiffure with incised pattern, enlarged ears, and inset lead eyes which are traditional attributes of Kamba sculpture.  It is in excellent condition having a warm mellow patina.
