FINE JALISCO MUSICIAN FIGURE

 

Origin:  Western Mexico, Ameca Style   Provenance:  Ex. collection of Dr. George Alan Solem, American malacologist (curator of invertebrates at the Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago)  It is believed that Dr. Solem likely acquired the figure in the 1970's from either Harry Franklin Gallery in Beverly Hills or J.J. Klejman in New York.

Period: 1st century B.C.–2nd century A.D.

Materials:  slip painted ceramic

Description:  This expressive figure has wonderful balance and volume.  He is arching far forward playing a flute and waving a rattle.  In pristine condition!
