HUGE 19TH C. FIJIAN "CULACULA" WAR CLUB

Origin:  W. Polynesia, Fiji, possibly Tongan as it is thought these originated from there     (Provenance: Acquired from Ramona Morris Fine Art, Delaplane VA)

Period/Date: Likely first quarter of the 19th Century

Materials:  Ironwood

Description:  Here's a great example of a "culacula" war!  It is very solid weighing 5 pounds, is of LARGE proportions and its cutting edge and terminal lobes are in good condition.  This is important since so often these striking edges have significant loss.  Its serrated cutting edge would cut right through bone, which is what it was specifically made to do!  This is an awesome club to handle in person and its owner, of high status, would have no doubt had a large frame and great strength.  It is in outstanding condition for its age having only shallow minor chips to its side lobes.  There are a couple old hairline stable age cracks.  Nice dark rich color turning to red with a mellow patina.  A very pure specimen sure to be a welcome addition to any collection.

Dimensions:   Length 49.25"  (125 cm), Width 8.25"  (21 cm)
