DOGON MINIATURE RITUAL LADDER

Description:  Small ladders like these were maintained inside the house at personal altars designed to enable human souls to climb to the afterlife in reunion with the ancestors.  This example has nine rungs or notches and has acquired a thick encrusted patina.  Presented on a custom wood base.
