Description:  This small scale ladder was used for ritual purposes and has acquired a semi-encrusted sacrificial patina.  It likely dates to the 19th century.  It has multiple notched-out steps on the main post and several on each arm.    Presented on a custom wood base.  The top of the ladder resembles the supports of the "toguna" on which beams of the men's hut rests which in turn evokes the "Nommo" a crucial figure in Dogon mythology with upraised arms as if praying for rain.
