Description:  This "ma go" mask is imbued with an evident spiritual presence.  Its composition is wonderful and it features a series of tin(?) studs along the ridged hairline.  It would have been used and carried on long journeys to provide spiritual protection for its owner or as a symbol of membership these miniatures can be shown to demonstrate a persons status and affiliation in places where he is not known.  It has acquired a semi-encrusted varied patina from years of traditional use.   In good condition having an age crack joining the chin and mouth area.  It is pierced though the chin and there are two holes in the back which do not go all the way though, likely from where a hanging hook was inserted.  CF. "Masks of black Africa" by Segy, page 95 figure 93.
