ANGOLAN PRESTIGE AXE, EXTREMELY FINE INCISED DECORATION
Origin: Angola, possibly Chokwe? (Provenance: Acquired from an old collection in Suffolk England) Period/Date: Late 19th- Early 20th century Materials: Hardwood, forged iron, cord, resin adhesive Description: This impressive prestige axe has the finest and tightest incised decoration we've ever seen on an African weapon! Its hand forged blade is firmly secured with fiber cord which is sealed with hardened resin. Its handle has a magnificent patina. In good condition with some miner dings which would be expected on a piece this old. Note: The stand show is borrowed from another piece. A custom stand may be ordered for an additional fee.
