BEDOUIN CAMEL SADDLE WITH NATIVE REPAIRS

 

Origin:  North African, Sahara Desert     

Period/Date: Early 20th century

Materials:  wood, iron, leather, aluminum, brass, copper, lead and wool

Description:  This camel saddle has been used for generations and has been lovingly carved for, accumulating meticulous native repairs over the years in iron, aluminum and leather.  Its riser handles have impressive lead inlay in geometric patterns and are embellished with iron and brass studs.  It show significant wear and use yet most of its trappings, although fragmented are present.
