Description: This old style of Abelam ancestor figure was carved with non-metal tools. It has a classic stylized Cockatoo bird on its head and it is noteworthy for its charm, presence and power. It has acquired a semi-encrusted surface from long use and retains some light green pigment. There is the remains of an old paper tag on the back. In good condition overall with some loss to the beak of the bird and an age crack on one side. The bottom of the wood base has old collection or accession labels.
